With the increase in authors who take the self-publishing route, there is an increased need for beta reading services. A professional beta reader will look at your work from several different angles and work in tandem with you to make your story the best it can be. I accept complete manuscripts that have had some self editing. It is much more efficient to work out the kinks before you send your story to an editor and it will also save money in the long run Often, beta readers like myself do in-depth line by line analysis of the work and converse with the author to work out the kinks that may exist. Beta readers may or may not be authors themselves, but they should be avid readers and familiar with your genre.
What a Beta Reader is not...
Your mom, your friend that never reads, and definitely not just any random person that wants a free book. Many authors go through the painstaking process of calling for beta readers and have many takers and then they wait...and wait. Either they get no feedback at all or they get a one-liner after the "beta reader" finishes their book. Something along the lines of "Yeah, it was good. I liked it." This only serves to waste the time of everyone involved and further delay the actual publication of the book.
What I am offering....
My beta reading services include in-line commenting, flexible deadlines, and guaranteed feedback on any specific questions you may have. I am an avid reader, writer, editor, and experienced beta reader.
My beta reading includes a commentary on the following areas:
- Plot, Pace, and Setting
- World-Building
- Characterization
- Style, Author voice, and Genre appropriateness
- Readability and market suitability, etc
- Unlimited questions from the author.
Most importantly, you will receive constructive feedback with explanation on why I make these responses and suggestions to improve the problems.
I use Word track changes and comment in a relaxed conversational style, offering suggestions, posing questions, or explaining why something does or doesn't work. I also include a separate document with a manuscript critique-style detailed response. Of course, I also correct any grammatical errors, typos, or misspellings that I see. If you do not want this please let me know before I start beta reading.
My rate is $1.50 per 1000 words.

I hired three different beta readers for my debut fantasy novel and Ayesha was by far the one who was worth every penny I spent. (And her fee was less than the others!)
